  • I don't have a lot of time to train my dog. How long should each training session last? Short, upbeat sessions of about 10 minutes each a couple times a day often work better than longer sessions.

I live in an apartment complex and have a grassy area outside the building. Is that enough room to do basic Agility? Yes...Around your apartment or in a near-by park is plenty of room to begin agility.  Be creative with your course design and be sure to have enough distance between obstacles to be safe for your dog.

My dog is a great jumper, but according to the video he should only jump at the 12-inch jump height. Can I set the jumps higher for him? It would be best that you don't jump higher than recommended.  Sequence jumping is harder on joints than a single jump.  Jump heights are recommended for the safety and health of your dog.

My dog is older but is still in good health. What adaptations should I make so Agility is safe for him? Check with your veterinarian first.  If he/she feels your dog is a good candidate for agility keep your sessions short, jumps lower than normal, and listen to your dog.  If he struggles with jumps it may be a sign that you should reconsider agility for him.

My daughter (12-years old) and our dog are inseparable. Can she help with the training? Absolutely!  Young people can be wonderful trainers.  Help your daughter understand the basic concepts of each lesson before she starts training.  This should allow for a positive lesson for both your daughter and your dog.
